At the request of the European Commission, Helena Imminga-Berends (and Jose de Bettencourt) produced an extensive study of the 25 European Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs) and adviced on how to promote sustainable development.
Booklets, in French and English, summarise the results: Booklet OCTs in EN and Booklet_OCTs in FR
The final report: Profiles of the OCTs – Main report- English
For instance the report on Greenland is included in the Report on OCTS in the North Atlantic region.
And the Caribbean regional report includes separate reports on the 6 OCTs related to the Kingdom of the Netherlands: the three countries Aruba, Curacao and Sint Maarten and the three ‘special municipalities’: Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius.
All the other regional and country reports (Indian Ocean, South Atlantic, Pacific region) can be downloaded from this European Union’s webpage.
In this project Helena Imminga- Berends of Regenboog Advies worked with Jose de Bettencourt in Portugal and Camille Vassart in Brussels.
For more info on OCTs in the EU, see OCTS information.
For the Association of OCTs see OCTA. On their website there is a description of all 23 OTS. We note also the work done on the biodiversity in these regions by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature IUCN.
The project is a follow-up to a previous study made by Helena and a British consultant in 2007. See this page.
